Engagement Resources

Use these resources to boost your ask every student strategy.

The resources on this page can help with making your voter engagement efforts inclusive, meaningful, and even expand beyond voter registration. Motivate students to make their voices heard through voter education, motivation, connecting voting to disciplines, offering inclusive opportunities, and enhancing voter registration through digital tools.

2022 Codesigner Katie Montgomery from Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) presents on The Voting Experience.

Make it meaningful.

These campus-created resources can help you execute inclusive, holistic, engaging experiences for students to participate in the democratic process.

  • Your Major on the Ballot

Emma Godel from American University created this resource as part of the 2022 Codesigner Cohort to help students connect their academic disciplines to political engagement. With over 35 majors covered, these talking points, issues, and articles can help make voting meaningful for students of many disciplines.

  • Civic Action Scorecard

Miami Dade College’s Civic Action Scorecard is a student’s toolkit for learning how to flex their civic muscles! In its simplest form, the Scorecard is a list of possibilities for Civic Actions. Whether they are registering to vote for the first time or ready to run for office, the Scorecard will support students’ growth as civic learners, help them demonstrate their learning in the creation of a portfolio, and prepare them to earn an award for their efforts. MDC presents the Civic Action Scorecard as an equitable, accessible, and diverse guide to civic empowerment for all.

  • The Tri-C 2021 Voting Experience

The Voting Experience at Codesigner Campus Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) is a series of fun, interactive and educational pop-up activities that can be incorporated into curricular and co-curricular voter engagement opportunities.

Transition from registration to turnout with Vote for Astra!

Integrating initial individualized voter registration touch points into existing processes is a great Ask Every Student strategy. However, we know that “nudging” and educating students through sustained contact over time can be essential to supporting students in navigating their options and casting ballots successfully.

We’re excited to partner with Vote for Astra to promote their Campus Canvass resources in the Ask Every Student Toolkit! Campus Canvass is a great strategy for colleges and universities of all sizes to achieve full voter participation. With multiple contact sessions leading up to an election, volunteers text peers using pre-written scripts to encourage registration and turnout.
